Zaragoza

It was one of those last minute decisions, after a few pints of Guinness. I had needed a break for months, but had had to manage without. We had sort of hoped to return to Ljubljana but the cheapo flights were just not there. So when we saw a flight, for 1 penny to Zaragoza, we went for it.

Ryanair's penny flight was actually almost £95 for 2 return, when taxes were added, but I thought even that was cheap. We booked a hotel for one night and flew...

Zaragoza was at first a disappointment, it seemed shut on a Saturday night. The Hotel refused to let us have coffee after delays on the flight which meant we arrived sometime after 10pm. Also, taxis were a bit elusive at Zaragoza airport. We wandered around Zaragoza as it shut, feeling that we would be better getting a car and leaving it quickly.
Sunday was the next day, and this hotel nh sport said that we couldn't get a hire car as nowhere was open on a Sunday. Do NOT believe the adverts and web sites for this hotel, there is nothing there at weekends... no restaurant.. no car-hire desk.. no coffee. We did get a coffee at breakfast time.
We went for a walk, this time in the sun, and we got a book about the city. Suddenly it started to come alive.. a book market.. fountains... music. We walked more towards the centre and it just got better. Interesting buildings, the Spaniards relaxing on a Sunday, it was fun.

And then it happened, we found this...


Somehow this pub just made the stay. We changed hotels to one close by, that even made us coffee. And we found that we could at long last unwind, with a Guinness and a pizza in our hands. We could wander the streets and explore the buildings, statues and bridges. Suddenly, the holiday had begun.


There was even bike racing on the TV..


And good company...

It was fun, so much fun that not only did we stay in Zaragosa the entire time, but we want to go back soon.
