An Afternoon Escape
Last week, I reached the screaming habdab time, and realised I needed some escape time. So I hit the panic button and persuaded Mike to show me Wales. I hardly get off Anglesey, I get to Tesco on some real exciting days, but further a field is just a mad dash along the A55 and into England, usually for a hospital appointment or funeral or one of our cheapo escapes with Ryanair. There are real snow covered mountains out there, that I have hardly seen. They are in the distance from here, often obscured by fog.
Wales is beautiful, yet it disappears at 70mph and I miss it.
So here goes... My April Fools Day (Happy Birthday Lee... and Cheryle)...
The Ogwen valley, the river Ogwen meandering through.
It was a shame the afternoon started so cloudily, that murky look doesn't do justice to the beauty. Also, the snow didn't look so white close up and was a lot higher than we managed that day.
We drove on to Swallow Falls. I only took a couple of photos here, as it was just a quick stop and they required payment to get a really good look at Swallow Falls, so that will have to be another day.
The above photo is of the Swallow Falls Hotel, it over looks the waterfall.
The waterfall, (above) was a bit obscured by trees and a fence which I hope I avoided in that picture. But I would have seen less if it was summer and the leaves were on the trees, but the noise I won't forget.
Now I knew all these places existed, I had even seen some with Del, but I had no idea the next places we went to were there... this was new territory for me.
We drove on, through Betws-y-coed and took a few turnings and then suddenly I caught sight of this.
The roar from this was louder than the Swallow Falls. It was a reservoir, very cold, a chill that felt like it could rip your flesh off the bone. And deep, very black water...(Llyn Alwen)
Bleak yet beautiful. There is a person fishing a long way across, but you will have to click to enlarge to see that, if your eyes are good.
...................Don't jump!!
We drove a bit further, not far and got to another reservoir, this one was not so bleak and even had a visitors centre which did teas and coffees and food. This is Llyn Brenig.
For one brief moment the sun actually shone on the wind turbines.
